New iPad and Gmail as Exchange

I tried setting my gmail up using the Exchange method that works on all other iOS devices. It allows you to save the account and gives you check marks however it constantly says connection to server failed. I have deleted and re-added the account and it is the same thing. I deleted and re-added the account on my iPhone 4 on iOS 5.1 with no issues. Has anyone gotten Exchange Gmail working on the New iPad?

I had it working a few days ago perfectly on the new ipad. I exchanged that ipad today for a white ipad instead of a black one that i had. I restored from icloud but the gmail sync account wan't there so i readded it again but not working.

I have been trying to figure out for the last 4 hours why and have searched and searched. I have tried deleting and adding, no luck. I have tried adding different gmail accounts, no luck. I have tried adding several gmail accounts to another iphone 4, no luck, another ipad 1 no luck, Reset the ipad to orginal factory setting with nothing on there and the first thing i did is try to add my google mail account with calendar and contacts set to sync as well, no luck. The funny thing is the account that i orginally had on the ipad is working perfectly on an iphone that has had it on there for over a year!

I keep thinking it is an issue with google and them adding NEW account registrations to server. Makes no sense, because the same account works on my iphone4. the only common variable that they all have is that they all have tried to be setup in the last 5 hours and all using microsoft exchange with the setting that is outlined by google. If i use add account and use "google mail" it works for my mail and calendar but not contacts. Can't get the exchange optoin to work and have tried on 4 different ios devices with 2 different accounts and no luck.

I've been having this same issue - I went to the Apple store yesterday with an issue with my last iPhone, and get a refurb replacement. Now I can't get my gmail account to be setup as my exchange account (same error message as you've all seen). I tried again this morning to set it up without luck. Let me know if you figure it out!! Good luck!

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but setting up Gmail by selecting Microsoft exchange is never meant to be. It is a bug that's patched. Why wouldn't you use the Gmail presets? within the Microsoft Exchange setup, it contains port numbers and address of the inbound and outbound servers which is why a Gmail's shouldn't work for Microsoft Exchange based emails.

My Gmail Exchange accounts were working fine on my previous iPad, which Apple was kind enough to swap out for a new one (unrelated issue) ... now NONE of my Gmail Exchange accounts work on the new iPad. Get "Cannot get mail, the connection to the server has failed". I've deleted and recreated all the accounts several times. I've reset the network settings on the iPad. I've rebooted. I've reinstalled IOS 5.1.

No help.

I suspect the issue is on google's end not liking the new device?

are there any solutions yet? My account settings, using "exchange" work fine on my iphone ...

There is a google mobile page to sep up your calenders for iphone (m.google.com/sync) that tells me that my ipad isn't supported for google mobile sync. Is this an overall issue or is it only applicable for calendar ... which would not make any sense nonetheless ^^

Has nothing to do with the new ipad. My previous ipad 3 worked fine, swapped it out with apple for another ipad 3, and only now will it not work.

m.google.com appears to refusing connections from NEW DEVICES, not NEW IPADS. I tried setting my exchange account on my wife's IPAD 1, same issue, since m.google.com is seeing it as a new device.

I firmly believe the issue is on google's side.
