simultaneous downloads no longer working in 10.6

Ever since upgrading to iTunes 10.6, the ability to simultaneously download items has stopped working. Even with eh checkbox checked to allow simultaneous downloads, I can not get more than one podcast, or app to download at a time. I had no problems with this until 10.6. Is anyone else having this problem, and if so, how did you resolve it?

Hi Arctic Ackbar,

I too am having the same annoying issue after upgrading to 10.6 and it still continues to plague me even after the latest update to 10.6.1.7

I don’t know if yours does the same but mine starts to download the maximum three items (if I have three or more but its the same even if downloading just two items) and it starts to download all three but then only downloads around say 100-200kB of the other two and waits for the first to finish, then moves onto one of the semi-downloaded items.

It then repeats this for all the remaining items in the queue so in essence I might as well just un-tick the simultaneous download option as it seems to slow the one download and general bandwidth of my internet down.

Lets hope it gets fixed in the next update, however I won't hold my breath

Mitchell,

Your scenario that you laid out is exactly the same issue I am experiencing.

I see the same thing happening where I am essentially downloading everything one at a time due to the incredibly low bit rate for download two and nonexistent bit rate for download three.

I have tried reinstalling to fix any missing or corrupted files, but have had no success. I feel my only option at this point is to perform a removal and reinstall, but really don't want to do that unless absolutely neccessary.

I am on Windows XP, running iTunes 10.6.0.40, and will add my name to the growing list. I will also add that I tried doing an uninstall/reinstall of iTunes (a major headache itself) and I still get the error. I have had to uncheck the Simultaneous Download option since some transfer take so long that the 2 other "downloading" items time out and have to be manually restarted. By unchecking the box, at least each of the files does get a chance to download without a bogus downloading message timing out. I have not seen a response or comment from Apple about the problem anywhere on the net.

'Me too' Windows XP SP3 a variety of itunes versions up to and including 10.6.1.7.

It also appears to effect scanning for updates in my podcasts takes much longer than it used to and 'gets stuck', kind of like you would expect if it was serially trying each one before moving onto the next one where as previously it looked like it would have multiple requests in parallel and if some got stuck being slow to trespond the others would continue.

After you wrote about this, I checked on my machine. I am not sure what the correct process is supposed to be, but on my machine when a refresh occurs of something like podcasts, they all queue up, three will show active icons indicating refresh, but only one of the three will actually progress at any time. So this appears to be more systemic than I originally saw. Both refresh of lists and the subsequent downloads are both "single-threading".
