When using Match; how does my iPhone get music when on an aircraft?
eg: WiFi and Cellular are both off.
iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.3

It doesn't. The music will need to be pre-downloaded to the iPhone before turning on Airplane Mode. This will require some pre-planning on your part.

Using Match then on any iDevice would be a problem when you want your music but you are in Aircratf mode.
I would love to see Apple's iTunes staff define what pre-planning steps are reuired.

You download the music you think you'll want to listen to before getting on the airplane. That's your pre-planning step.
My pre-planning has been to download all my playlists to my iPhone; just as I have done with my iPad. However, that is not working on my iPhone 4 (it does work on my iPad 2). AppleCare told me this morning to turn off Match and then turn it back on. Well; that did not work at all. I think I will keep Match enabled on my Mac but disable it on my iPhone.
What do you mean "that is not working?"
Every time I have turned Match off and back on, it has taken longer than I thought it would to re-sync. But eventually it has always worked for me. All songs show in the cloud and I can download what I want so it is stored locally for when I am offline.
Two hours then must be insufficent; should I let it run overnight? After two hours, nothing shows on the iPhone; not even one song or playlist.
So you're just talking about the intial DB download. 2 hours does seem a little excessive. What kind of network ar you on? Wi Fi or 3G?
I am using my home WiFi network (Apple Airport).
Let's back up.
When you turn on iTunes Match on your iPhone how long does it take for the Albums, Artists and Playlists to show up on the device? It should take more than just a few minutes. Album artwork will take a little longer.
Once you've got the database on the iPhone, and all the tracks, albums and artists have cloud icons next to them, what do you do next? Start downloading from the playlists? Is this where you are getting hung up? Downloading hundreds of tracks can take several hours. Even over night as you suggest.
I am abandoning using Match on my iPhone. I will manage my music manually without the aid of iCloud and iTunes Match. Thanks for all your suggestions.
You're welcome.
