Q: Mac Mini connected to a older 23" HD Cinema Display Model M8536

First of all the monitor works great on my old G5. So we know its working. does not work with my 2012 mac mini.

I've tried Adaptors..

DVI - Thunderbolt (mini display port)

DVI - HDMI

Called Apple Support

They couldn't explaine why it didn't work.

Some marked their discussion as solved but the answer was "get a new monitor"

I don't find that exceptable. Any other old junk monitor works but not a really expensive HD Mac monitor???

If you have any new info please share

The monitor uses DVI so a mini-displayport/thunderbolt to DVI adapter should be the proper one to use.  If this is the only monitor attached (which I guess it would be if it's a mini) then perhpas the default resolution and/or refresh rate is incorrect for that monitor.

Try doing a pram reset and/or booting in safe mode to see if you can get the display up to set the proper resolution and refresh rate.

I had a similar issue between a new Macbook Pro (Late 2011/8,2) and an older matte cinema display. PRAM reset fixed that. I'm still having an issue where target disk mode doesn't seem to work right on it which sadly still persists.
