Thanks Nethers, sadly I've tried these links several times. the issue is the country where the computer is purchased and the language installed conflicts with the native language of the user.

Pity Apple still haven't recognised this yet.. might mean they have to actually invest in some real coders for once and not just lawyers and accountants!

Appreciate your kind support!

Agreed completely, but what I'm trying to do is change the language of iTunes.. this is based on either where the bank account is located or original host language. Whilst a local bank account might be fine for day to day needs and minor sums paid to itunes, unless you're native to the local language or have considerable linguistic skills, it limits your browsing and potential purchasing.. if you're not fluent. Loss to (cr)Apple.

This is how crazy it gets, when I log out of my apple ID the Store App converts to UK edition.. where I can browse but when I select an item to purchase.. I'm requested to log in.. and guess what.. the UI and store switches back to Spanish.. and I'm told I can't make the purchase in the spanish store because my account is setup in the UK. Mad or what (cr)apple

It is about time apple gets this sorted.

I want to read other users comments, and a prper description of the app, not some waffle about 'mais c'est pas en francais' . I want to warn others about duff apps. I'd like to praise where it deserve it. For instance I downloaded to external screen apps, one is useless, one is fantastic. But they keep sending me to some Frenchman moaning about all being in english. and since I didn't really understand the description, maybe downloading the duff one was my fault.

It is really time to sort this. I have complained to apple and also said that I would NOT recommend itunes to my friends, as the app uses the wrong language. And I warned my employee who wanted an ipad for her husband about it, so she is buying something else now. She said he'd go balmy if he had to judge a plumber's app in FRENCH.

Using this thread to air a specific gripe. Apple seems to believe that the language spoken in Switzerland is German. A large proportion of the population however speak French and most of those do not speak German and have no interest in doing so. You will get nowhere if you take to the streets of Geneva or Lausanne and try to get by in German; as in most other parts of the world, the universal second language is English. Most IT services offered by domestic companies in Switzerland are available in four language options - German, French, Italian and English. Yet Apple, and particularly iTunes, insist that there is only one language. I can cope with repeatedly opting to get out of the default, but really do not see why it should be necessary. And having the German language top albums presented every time I open iTunes here, when I have a billing address in a French-speaking city and bank details for a local French Swiss bank is just infuriating.

James,

the problem is , if you report this to apple you waste a lot of time.

they basically told me to lie and change my billing adress to a UK setting.

which, frankly, is a lie. I have got two UK bank accounts but don't live there.

Why on earth can't they come to touch with reality and allow people to change their I tunes store.

It is so annoying, I can't even COMMENT on bad apps in the right laguage.

I simply detest bad translations and I can't see the point of having to translate everything back to English.

Plus, as the thurber points out, it is contraproductive for their own sales if it just puts you off using itunes all together. I couldn't care less about french TV or shows or games. But if you put in an English word in the itunes search, all you get is games or music, not the app you wanted.

I run a business, not a game center.

And yes, i heve told apple that I would not recommend an ipad to a friend because of this very discouraging 'feature'

I think I figured it out. I was having similar issues. App Store was showing up in Japanese for some unknown reason, so were emails the came from Apple, like password change confirmations. I tried everything, I changed the language in iTunes, iCloud, on the computer, on my iPad, on my iPhone. All said English. Then I stumbled on a settings tab in my iCloud control panel.

I'm not really sure how to navigate to it from the store website, but here's the link from my browser

https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

If you have iCloud control panel on your PC, go to "account options" > "manage apple id" > type in your id and password. Once in, on the bottom of the left panel there is a link for "language and contact preferences". Click that. Then you can type in your preferred language. This is completely separate from any other language setting with Apple.

Hope this helps you, it cured my problem immediately.
