Hold down the COMMAND key then select and drag the items out of the sidebar. They should poof away.

They don't- that is the problem- this is so frustrating! thanks for the reply though
What exactly are these items and under what heading do they appear? Are you dragging them to your left from the sidebar?
one is a folder entitled spring jsg postcard stuff. command shift will open it but it is empty.
the other is an old appleworks document that says [v5.o (DR) it won't open at all. I have an external drive to boot up 10.6.8 and when I have done that I can get them off the finder, but then they come back when I reboot to 10.7.3. both jsut bounce back when I try to remove them to the desktop as should work. any ideas? others have suggested finding the PLIST for the finder, but it does not appear in my library with the other com.apple/ lists that are there.
Look in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder for com.apple.finder.plist.
on the MAC HARDrive there is a libray folder, not in the "home" folder. there is not a com.apple.finder.plist. could it be called something else?
Home library folder is hidden in Lion. Go to Finder and select Go in the menu while holding the option key down. Select Library from the submenu. This is the Home Library.
thanks! I moved the non locked finderplist and the non locked finder sidebar list to trash. shoule I also try to remove the locked plist? or will that wreck something?
i removed the locked files too and VOILA!!! it worked thanks so much!
I assume you restarted the computer after trashing those files. Note that removing those files will put the Finder and Sidebar back to the default setup. You will have to recreate your settings.
Thank you - was driving me crazy - worked perfectly.
The command key is the
Apple Key or the one next to the space bar.
some people call it the puppy foot.
Hold it down and then click on the icon with your mouse, now drag it ( the folder icont)
towards the desktop and
Whoala It goes poof and disappears.
There should be absolutly nothing that gets in the way of this working 100 percent of the time
I tried doing the command option, does not work.
Tried choosing "library" under submenu, does not exist.
Any other way?
What i just did
Make a New Folder or if it is a document with the same exact name on your desktop.
Then go to the sidebar, it should recognize the new name, It must be the Same.
Then it will allow you to do all of the things that everyone has suggested
It could have been a file that was thrown away or it could be on another Hard drive.
It Doesn't matter.
But move the file you created it can be a movie or a picture or a document it must be the same name
Move to the desktop
now you can throw away the files on the desktop
