My trackpad is going crazy, cursor moves on its own

My trackpad shows no visible change, however my cursur moves on its own, clicks on things, drags icons, and at other times refuses to move. Sometimes for a moment it will work, but then it is back again. I highly suspect malware. My computer worked fine, there is no sign of hardware damage and I reset my Pram. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Read my post and check. There is litterally 30-40 of these same posts on this forum and my solution works.

"Ok I have had this issue for months. I figured out that it was a folder workflow that I put on the machine."

My MacBook Pro is about two years old. I was having most of the same issues. Occasionally at first, then more and more frequently until last week they became continual. Yesterday I could not get the cursor to respond at all. I took it to an Apple store today and it would not work when it was booted as a dummy from their system, indicating it was a hardware issue. They replaced the trackpad for $90 plus tax. Really irritated that the hardware is no more durable, but I am happy to be back in business now.

Pearldrummer28 from Topeka KS and anyone else to whom I gave the impression I am satisfied--I am so NOT satisfied.

If any of you has suggestions for syncing and sharing options other than those that lock you into Apple products, please share them. I plan to look at other brands as I replace my computer, tablet and phone. I see no point in paying extra up front for Apple hardware if it is no more reliable than cheaper products.

Surely I am not alone in this thinking.

I fix macs everyday, not my job but I do it for people. I have so many apple products which have all lasted. No issues. You look at the trackpads that go wrong and people use them so hard. Like PC's you need to bash them to make them work. They have food all over them, all their keys are worn out and they are like.. how unusal! haha not.

As a question to your question of syncing. Have you heard of iCloud? it's built into apple. Syncs everythig you need, including passwords. Google it.

Just got a new computer and I have this problem also. I took it into a One-to-One and he kept saying "it's working just fine". Have they been instructed to ignore this? It makes me ill to use this new computer and now I can forget about ever playing games like Solitare.

He even uploaded a free app that was suppose to fix this but it did not. There is an app to fix the faulty new trackpad?! What is going on?

I am going to make one more appointment and if they can't fix this I am giving up.

Yes, I use iCloud now, but will look for something independent of Apple. I don't pound anything and at the Apple Store they said my machine was clean for one two years old.

I am not saying there is no possibility of user error, but my experience is that in spite of the extra money I paid for them, the Apple products I have purchased are not superior in quality/reliability to cheaper ones.

I'm having intermittent issues where my 2012 imac's trackpad goes nuts and clicks all over the place (often rapidly) for a minute or two. My concern is that it's to do with the latest round of updates i did on Tuesday as it began early on in the day. Anyone experienced the same issue or have any ideas?

So far i have tried, the usual SMC, PRAM, restarting; moving my phone away from the mac and the trackpad; cleaning the trackpad; tweaking the "turn off built in trackpad" option and now i'm lost.

This did happen for a short time before on my last imac but i cant remeber what i did ot fix it though it may well have been removing google chrome (and yes i have already done this).

Any thought welcome, kind regards,

James

I've had this problem for weeks. A couple of ants crawled from my keyboard, I thought they were responsible. I removed the backcover, inspected and cleaned, no ants, but the problem continued. I went through all the posts I could find looking for an answer. I followed suggestions, bought a triwing screwdriver, removed the battery, disconnected and reconnected the trackpad to the motherboard, reset the PRAM, cleaned the trackpad, still the cursor moved around the screen with a mind of its own. I gave up and hooked a mouse to the USB. I went to system prefs, and in Universal Access checked 'ignore trackpad when mouse is connected'. I worked for a day or so with the mouse, constantly irritated the USB port was on the left and I'm right handed. I missed the convenience of my trackpad. I wondered how it was behaving now. I disconnected the mouse, and to my surprise, my perfectly reliable trackpad was back. I guess it didn't like being ignored:)

Oh you're behaving now I thought, but what happens if I shut you down and restart?

I did and It's still behaving. Yay!

I forgot to mention the name of the free app. It's Smooth Mouse. It's suppose to make the track pad behave but it does not work for me. Maybe I'm not doing it correctly.

I am so frustrated with this new trackpad. Plus the loud clicking sound it makes is very distracting. I looked for a volume control but there is none. Wish I could get the old trackpad back. Is that possible? Can I have the old trackpad installed on my new MacBook Pro?

My trackpad worked flawlessly for two days. Tonight, I went to check my facebook account and as the page loaded, my trackpad started misbehaving again, so badly, it was difficult for me to go back to system preferences/ universal access/ mouse and trackpad, and click the 'ignore built in trackpad when mouse is connected.' I then plugged in my mouse. The trackpad quit functioning. When I unplugged the mouse, my trackpad was again working perfectly, just as I reported in my previous post. Clearly my trackpad problem is not hardware related. Was Facebook involved? I've been back to Facebook, but my trackpad continues to work properly. What is initiating this irritating behavior?

I think the New MacBook Pro has a faulty trackpad. My old MacBook Pro was PERFECT until the graphics card went out. This is the first time in my life that I have gotten a new Apple Computer and was not happy with it.

In the past it was always better than the last. But this new model, (only 3 weeks old) has an inferior trackpad.

When I made a one-to-one appointment he insisted there was nothing wrong with it but he lied. Obviously, from reading all these Support Communities the problem is huge. They should do a recall. But first they probably need to figure out how to fix it.

Makes me want to cry every time I use this new model. I paid more but got so much less. First time ever.

So sad.
