Yes, it's automatic.

The removal happens as a pat of the installation of that security update. There is no separate removal tool that needs to be run manually. The updater just removes Flashback, installs the Java update and then changes a Java setting to tighten up security.
That *****. They should give the user some feedback as to what is going on.
The release notes for the update tell you what's going to happen, and if you have the malware it will tell you.
So I installed the security update. Nothing happened. Do I need to remove anything?
Your home free just like the other 99.5% of the Mac users who didn't have it, seeing as only 0.5% of the Mac were infected.
Certainly was a lot of noise over just about nothing wasn't it.
