Q: Error: The installation failed. An unknown installation occurred when installing bundled applications

Hi all,

I reformatted my MBP V10.6.7 and reinstalled the OSX which was ok. I then proceeded to install the applications bundled software but it came up with an error

The installation failed.

An unknown installation occurred

Does anybody know how I can fix this?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Hi soundwarrior, I had this problem too and have spent about an hour on the phone to Apple who are sending me a new DVD.

However I decided to find the error log and see what was going on, it turned out a certificate had expired so the installer package was no longer trusted. I set the date on my iMac back to around the date I bought it and it worked fine! I hope this helps. If not and you go through the Express lane online, request an exception to having to pay when it gives you the option.

You are an absolute star/genious.... but I only purchased my macbookpro a year ago (april 2011)... why would the certificate expire so soon?

Hi Clem,

Thank you, I'm glad it helped you and everyone else because I'm sure some people will have been tearing their hair out as I was! I have no idea why the certificate expires so soon, I only got my iMac in May 2011. Maybe it's to get people to buy it through the App Store, I was advised I could do this if I didn't want to wait for a new DVD!

This sounds like the problem I'm having, but I'm not sure what you mean by resetting the date on my imac. How do I do this?

In System Preferences>Date & Time, 1st uncheck Automatically Update from the Internet, then set the Date.

I'm having the same issues but since I installed a new HD, I don't have access to my system preferences, so i cant change the date.

apple sent me a brand new snow leopard disc but I still can't install.
thoughts??

I thought the issue concerned the bundled application disk not the install DVD ... Anyhow when you start installing if you get past the select you language screen, you move you mouse towards the top of the screen ... You get a menu

I could'nt see anything that would set the date... But it does give you access to terminal ... Look at this

sorry, meant to specify my issues with the install DVD.

I was able to change the date via terminal but was still not able to instal snow leopard.
off to the genius bar I go...
