Those photo's from Nat Geog on the apple tv's slideshow are fantastic, however, could i add my own photo's?

Yes, just change the screensaver on apple tv to photo stream and add your own photos to you photo stream via your iPad / pod etc
You can add your own photos to the Apple TV, to use either with the screensaver or use in a slideshow. To add the photos to the Apple TV, select them through the option that you will find in the advanced menu in iTunes on your computer.
When you have done this, go to your Apple TV and in the screensaver settings you can change the photos used for the screensaver from the Apple stock photos to those of your own.
