Q: Change my "Apple ID and Primary Email Address" to my @me.com address

So I have a gmail email address that I have been using as my Apple ID for quite some time now. When iCloud was launched I added a @me.com address to this account so I could take advantage of the notes syncing feature of iCloud.

I now want to start using my @me.com email address as my only email address and shut down the gmail account completely. Only problem is when I go to appleid.apple.com and try and change my "Apple ID and Primary Email Address" to be the @me one it tells me "You cannot create an Apple ID using a MobileMe account. If this is your email address, it is also your Apple ID".

All I want to do is remove the gmail address off the account and continue using the @me iCloud email that is attached to the account anyway. Why is this proving to be so hard?

Thanks Edm11, but it doesn't work.

It appears in apple id account (after manage account) but it doesn't let me to choose @icloud both my apple id and e-mail.

I even sent this problem to so called apple "support", they said they can't do anything.

Whatever i give up and i will use hotmail account there.

This company used to be innovative, revolutionary and many other fancy words. Now it copycats nokia lumnia and forces to use non-apple e-mail as apple id.

    So stupid.

    RIP Jobs.

It wont let you change your Apple ID, but you should be able to change your contact address (for receipts, news etc), under 'Payment Information'.

Anyone that still really wants this changed properly go to the Apple feedback page and tell then it needs to be changed ASAP. I even linked my feedback to this discussion board to show that it's not just one person that wants this.

Here's the Apple feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

You know what kills me, is I looked on the net and Apple it seems at one time actually has/had a page where  supposedly you COULD change it if you watned to and I used it, but the same thing happened, (hits myself in the head out of frustration of the sheer stupidity) where like many of you, you just don't have the option of changing it. This is BS in the highest order. You know I actually talked to support not that long ago regarding a different issue and the lady to my suprise asked me for my password!  She was snotty about it to boot when I questioned her. ***? What gives you the right? You're NOT supposed to do that EVER to a customer but there you go, proof positive of the total gall that we know Apple employees have and display.

Here's the link to that page I was referring to.

Having the same problem as everyone else... old email address that is the AppleID and no way to change it on the iPad.  I called support and they said you have to delete each and every app and then download them all again.  I said that can't be the best solution and soon there was silence... The guy hung-up on me and never called back (though he had a call-back number).  I'm so not into this company.

My Apple ID is my @mac.com address and I would like to change that to @icloud.com. Is this possible? Every time I check if I can edit my Apple ID I am not able to access that function. I did once click the button to make the @mac.com address one and the same, but I want to undo that and now use @icloud.com. Possible?

You can absolutely change your Apple ID. You cannot change an account to an @a me or  @iCloud account because they are already an account.

I don't think you spoke with an AppleCare advisor over the phone. The information you were given was not correct. You can absolutely change the name that you're using for your Apple ID. The link below explains how to do it. You can have apps from many different accounts if you reallt wanted to. An Apple ID will however always be tied to the account using the name is was called at that time.

The only intance of an old Apple ID (if you already changed the name is iCloud (if you have the Find My Device feature activated; anti-theft feature) When you try to sign out it will ask for the password and show the name for the old account. It's important to sign out of the iCloud account before changing the name.

Everyone needs to understand that if you started out with either a @mac or @me e-mail address, you cannot easily change either.  I just got off the phone with an Apple rep and they told me you must call them to change it, due to the fact it is on a separate domain - it requires a bit of work on their end.  You can only change a @icloud address on Apple's site.

I have this issue to. I'm going to let my ownership of my old primary email domain expire and switch all of my email to go to my icloud. I will only have one person email address when I'm done. It will greatly simplify my life to not have 100 email addresses like I used to.

Is this idea so advanced that Apple cannot grasp it? if you believe that simple is best, then why would you have more than one email address?
