Xavier, can you explain a little bit more what you did, please? You downloaded Aperture from the AppStore, I assume?

  • Did the installer run and install the Application properly in the Applications folder, or was there an error message from the installer?
  • Or is it that you try to open the installed application in the Applications folder and it does not launch? Do you get an error message from Aperture or is there a crash report?

If there is a crash report, please post first 50 lines. If there is an error message please post the exact error message and when it occurs.

The error message is: In your Library an important framework is missing "PluginManager.framework" - this usually happens if you install some other program that installs own packages in the Library.

Open your System volume in the Finder and inspect the folder "Library" if the framework really is missing:

Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/PluginManager.framework/Versions/B/PluginManager

If it is not there, the safest way to restore it would be to reinstall MacOS Lion. Alternately you can try to restore that framework from your TimeMachine backup.

The framework usually is installed when you install your Operating System. The easiest way to do it would be to download the MacOS Combo update: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3528

How to install is described in this Support Article:

Aperture 3.x: Aperture unexpectedly quits if Final Cut Express 4 is installed

In your case the same framework is missing as described there, even if you do not have Final Cut installed.

Just out of curiosity what difference with the usual update?

A regular update only includes the additions to the previous version. A Combo Update is a full OS version - the full OS install including all recent updates - you could also boot into the "Recovery Partion" or download again from the App Store, but sometimes the App Store needs convincing to let you download again. I usually head straight for a Combo Update if one is available, I find it the most convenient way to reinstall.

I think you are looking at your user library, not at the System Library.

Is your MacOS system installed on "Macintosh HD" or on "Macintosh SSD"?

  • If it's on "Macintosh SSD", click this in the Finder sidebar, and then you will see the system Library folder. Look there fro Frameworks.
  • If it's on "Macintosh HD", do the same starting from this volume.

Is the framework there?

O.K., so you have found the correct frameworks folder - but please check what is inside by clicking the disclosure triangle besides the folder icon. Then look, if there is a folder

PluginManager.framework

If it is there, check the Versions Folder : Is there a Version -> B Folder or A Folder and are they empty or not?
