Gmail not refreshing

How do I refresh my gmail on the MacBook Air? It seems to be very slow but the iPad never has any trouble and delivers mail promptly. Thanks, beth189

In mail, click preferences. On the general tab, what do you have for "check for new messages"? That's where you would adjust how often mail queries Gmail for new mail.

Thanks, BGreg, when I checked in Settings, the refresh was manual so now I've made it every 15 minutes and it seems to be working so far. Much appreciated.
