One final question: The message told me to do the following:

To complete the unlock, simply:

1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have internet

connectivity.

2. Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came

with your iPhone.

3. Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes.

For information on backup and restore, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.

4. After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.

Additional information on unlocking can be found at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3198.

I `ll have to update to ios 5.1.1 and to the newest baseband?

Hello Mehdivoux,

It's always nice to help another Iphone user to deal with this issue of locked baseband. I've reached success doing the following.

1 - Sending an e-mail to icare3@amcustomercare.att-mail.com asking for the unlock of the Iphone. Note that not all Iphones are eligible for unlock. You must have bought yours in a "NO CONTRACT" plan and send a photo of the proof of purchase, the serial number and the IMEI number.

2- If you receive a positive reply of AT&T they will tell you to wait 24-48 and then restore your Iphone Via Itunes (it will update your IOS to the latest version).

3 - Enjoy your unlocked iphone

Important: If you don't have the proof of purchase, try to get it with the store that you bought. I bought mine at Best Buy and as I had the day, the value, number of credit card they sent me another proof.

important2: I had to send a lot of e-mails to AT&T until I reach success! So keep pushing them until you positive reply.

If you have another question, post here and I try to help you.

Sorry for English mistakes. Not a native speaker...

i tried calling att and the first time it was a really nice person that attended me and told me to wait for an email so i could se if my iphone was eligible but it resulted it wasn't, I called a second time and this time the lady wasn't that nice, she told me that the unlock depended on Apple, that it was apple the one that authorizes if and Iphone can or cannot be unlocked, what should I do now?

@edjaco11 - The 2nd person was wrong. If you have an AT&T contract for your phone they are responsible for unlocking your phone. But if the phone is still under contract they will not unlock it for you. Once your phone is off contract and you are on month to month with them they should provide you with the unlock code.

I have gone round and round with AT&T on this and finally got a Manager on the phone who explained their policy to me.

If you are on contract they really don't want you to have any other options such as buying a pre-paid sim card in another country. They want your money and have locked you into a contract that you are stuck with unless you want to pay it out early.

ATT's requirements - http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB414532&cv=820#fbid=Ycx9DmRqTgN

If you are not or were not an AT&T wireless customer, they will not unlock your phone.
