Cannot open .docx and .pptx on ipad2 even with pages,keynote and doc to go apps

Have the files been saved properly? Where are the files located on the iPad that you are trying to open? If they are email attachments have you tried holding down on the attachment to bring up the "Open In" window and then select the appropriate app from there? If that isn't working - restart the iPad and try again.

Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

I could not download the file at all in iCab mobile which is pretty reliable - it will not work at all in Safari. I tried downloading the file on my computer - as well and it will not open because the file has both.docx and .doc at the end of the file - that is an invalid format. Like I suggested - it was not saved properly.

After I downloaded the file on my computer - I changed the extension to .docx only - removing the .doc at the end and it works fine. I emailed it back to myself and I can use Open In and it will open in Pages.

Change the file extension and it will work. The formatting and fonts will change a bit - but it all looks OK to me.
