Q: Audio Help

I bought a connector at the apple store so I could connect my computer to my tv using the HDMI cord. The picture shows perfect but the audio plays through my computer speakers instead of my tv's surround sound. How can I fix this problem?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

A:

MBP later than Mid 2010 will supply audio over the MDP port, earlier than that they will not. Connect a seperate audio line from the headphone out to the audio in on the TV.

So I have to buy another cord inorder to produce sound?
Do you know where to buy this type of cord and the name of the cord??

The end that fits in your Mac is a minijack (stereo) and I have no clue what is on your TV (it's your TV) so can't advise what you will need for that.

Here's a support doc from Apple on the subject of MDP/HDMI.

ok then thank you for your help. Now i have to go buy another thing. I was just going to buy the apple TV to play through my TV but the guy at the store said this would be more efficient.

The down fall with the apple tv for me is that I am not able to stream from my Macbook Pro to the apple tv. only the ipad and iphone.
