Can you Watch live TV on your iPad?

Is it possible to watch live TV on your iPad (1st generation)?

Or only prerecorded TV shows like through Hulu or Netflix, etc.?

@demo.

I have. But everytime I've been where it's for sale, I've been too tired or in a rush to focus on what it does exaclty. It seems to do several functions, but the most I got was it would put content you want to watch on whatever device you wanted to watch it on.

I wasn't sure if you first needed the content, like already have cable TV and then Slingbox would move the content around your house. OR... you don't have to have cable TV and that's what slingbox is for and then it will get the content and also move it around the house.

I guess since I'm now serious about cutting cable TV bill, that I need to go to the slingbox site and read up...

Thanks for reminding me about it.

Steven

PS... Julian, I live in NY so that won't work. But thanks.

Steven,

You still have to have the cable coming into the house in order to use SlingBox. You can't eliminate the cable bill. It's just a way to watch whatever you can watch on your TV at home - while you are away from home.

I don't think that you are going to find any app that will allow you to watch TV for "free". Here in Pittsburgh, without a hi-def TV - I need a converter box to convert the digital signal to analog so that I can use the 16 year old GoldStar TV that I have sitting on my deck in the backyard. You would still need some sort of basic cable in order to bring the signal to the TV.

I have a splitter on my big screen HI-Def set in the game room and I can watch the "free" digital channels that way, if I flip over to the TV input vs the HDMI input, but I still have to have the signal coming in from Comcast.

Another solution that is worth looking at is Elgato's Netstream if you're looking to get broadcast over-the-air TV or cable TV onto iPad/iPod Touch/iPhone/Mac/Pc/etc....

It can deal with two separate channels to two separate devices simulatneously also, but you need to check out your WiFi and Ethernet network capabilities to be sure just how well it will fit your situation. It works really well for us though. 🙂

Demo, right that's what me quick and limited read about it was. Which is fine, but for me I watch such limited amount of TV that I think I'm gonna try digital TV over the air amplied antenae and see what that's like. Just got a unit from Best Buy. If not adequate, I'll return it and probably at that point just get basic cable from my local cable company. I just really want to stay away from cable creep which before you know it you've creeped up to a $170/month cable bill and hardly watch at all.
