I've been reading that the advances in over the air digital anteneas are so good now that they rival and in some case surpase the quality of cable companies TV quality! The one I was reading was called the Leaf by Mohu.
They have an amplified and non-amplified one and from the report (by CBS News!) it said the non-amplified (and half as costly) was depending on your area often all you need!
This article was written in 2010 so I'm assuming there have been advances in anteneas since then and wonder if anyone has had experience getting TV without going through a cable or phone company and paying a fortune. Last time I had full cable I was paying over $170 EVERY month. I'm not doing that again! Also the article was focused more on your TV versus your computer. I have a 30" monitor which is like having a TV attached to my Mac Pro. I also have a hometheater system which I'm not using much these days. But it does have a BluRay attached to it which has Netflix and CinemaNow and VuDu
I'm actually getting quick comfortable streaming Netflix and YouTube, but I do miss having the News which I gather I could get with a good antenea. I'm not promoting the Mohu/Leaf or anything, it was just the one the article liked the best, but again the article is now almost 2 yrs old.
I have a BluRay player with Netflix and 2 other movie outlets for rental. That's the only reason I haven't bought an AppleTV yet is because of the redundancy and I don't really need to project what's on my iPad to my TV. But if I got an AppleTV and a digital TV antenea, would I pretty much have all I need to watch TV with the excpetion of the pay channels like HBO and Showtime? Unless there's now a way to even get those services without having to sign up with a cable or phone company.
Luckily I'm not a big sports watcher so I don't have to worry about getting all those channels
Any insight in to an approach or group of hardware to buy to get free and legal TV would be much appreciated.
PS: I have Hulu Plus on my iPad, so if I understand AppleTV right, I could buy a TV show on Hulu and project it to my TV through an AppleTV?
