Q: Voltage differences in different countries

I have a 21.5-inch: 2.7GHz iMac bought through the Apple web site here in Thailand in November 2011.  I am about to return to the UK for a while with my iMac and then, after a few months, I will be taking it with me to Dubai where I will be working.

From what I have read I can simply buy an alternative power cable and there will be no issues with alternative voltages damaging my iMac in either UK or Dubal.  Is that true?

Thanks, Andy

The iMac will operate on 100-240 Volts and 50-60 Hz, so it will work virtually anywhere in the world.

You won't need a voltage converter or different power cable....but you will need an adapter to be able to plug into the wall jack....since the plug that you have now will likely not fit into the wall jack in the country that you visit.

Hi Bob, Thanks for such a quick response and for putting my mind at rest.  So just a plug adapter needed, but if I wanted to, I could also buy a new cable as an alternative?

You could buy a new cable, but it is going to be tough to find one that has the correct plug orientation on both ends that you will need.
