Take it back to apple and get it replaced

I forgot to say is your mute button on

YEsterday my daughter was reading her book all sudden no sound at all to all her audio books n games but her music are fine. I went online n check not just us but many other are experience same problem. I will take my iPad to apple store today since i bought it only a week ago. Hope you can solve ur problem

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music/iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.

Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. Have the exact same problem. Just got 3g Ipad from best buy. No audio on: netflix, videos, abc app, or other video apps without headphones plugged. I've checked that I don't have it acidentally muted somehow, I don't. restored to factory, from the ground up. Nothin. Even when headphones are not plugged in, it says "headphones" next to volume indicator. Called apple support, they said to take it back to Best Buy. So, off to best buy to get a fresh one.

This is how I fixed my no sound problem with my new iPad.

(1) go to settings

(2) set side switch to lock rotation

(3) make sure the side switch in NOT set to lock rotation

(4) set the side switch back to mute

Thank tisalci, that worked for me, too. I don't know how it got like that. We keep our button set to lock rotation. Putting it on mute, flipping the switch up and down, then changing it back to lock fixed it.

My speaker has not worked for 2 weeks & I've been procrastinating with going to the Apple Store because of the whole iCloud restore process. Thanks to you my problem is solved. THANKS!!!

Did the Apple Store find out what your audio problem was?

I've got an iPad3 with no audio in music, videos, apps, Safari, ect. But when I go into sound setting and move the sound bar I hear sound. Also when plugging in to recharge I hear that recharging beep. Also if I plug in the earbuds I hear sound. Have tried everything short of doing a restore.

i also have the same problem since today afternoon (10-22-2012)., actually this is not the 1st time i experience this, but today i dont know how to fix this i just think that my son just click something while he is watching youtube earlier so i try to fix and try the other suggestion., i also restore and try to reset my ipad to check the notification settings and general settings to, but my sounds in my speaker still doesnt work i try to use my headset and it works. i dont really know what happen it suddenly my sounds disappear any one can help me? my son is so sad he want to play and watch movie and youtube with sounds 😟

Note: This is not a new solution, I am rewriting my solution submitted on May 20, 2012 to make the instructions a bit more clearer.

Here is how I solved my no sound problem with my new iPad

unless specified assume that the operation is to be performed on the touch display

1) tap SETTINGS

2) in the left column tap GENERAL if it has not already been selected.

3) in the right column select LOCK ROTATION

4) go to the physical side switch located on the side of your iPad and make sure that it is NOT SET TO LOCK ROTATION

5) set the side switch to MUTE, your sound should be back

I can't guarantee that this will work for you. All I can say that it worked for me and I hope it works for you.

i cant hear any notification alerts, all sounds is on, but i still cant hear it, what am I supposed to do? please help

Hi., ihope i can help im from japan., after all the help i read here my ipad still now work so what i did is to go back to the shop where i buy my unit and then they help me not to fix they help what to do. They ask me to call to a nearest apple center support and my friend do that bcoz im not good in talking in japanesse and they ask to send the ipad to the nearest mac store/apple store to check what happen if the unit broke bcoz it fall or damage with water i need to pay to fix it but after 3 days only they send it back to me and i surprise when i open bcoz they send me a new unit (ipad only) .
