Java and Javascript have almost nothing to do with each other besides the name sounding somewhat similar. Java executes as applets that are separate from the webpage, whereas Javascript are executed as part of an individual website's code. Java has a much greater chance of doing harm than Javascript, since it isn't entirely enclosed within the atmosphere of the browser itself. Apple's acknowledgement of the Flashback virus says that for those who have 10.5 any version or earlier, their only recommendation for keeping it from spreading is turning off Java. Yet Apple issued a Java patch for both 10.6.8 and 10.7.3 which disables automatic execution of Java from a web browser, and another one for 10.7.3 which finds the Flashback when Java is not even enabled. Infer what you might, I've written this tip:
http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3261
There are as reported several variants of the Flashback virus. These patches and updates from Apple solve most of them. The few that they don't solve don't seem to thus far cause any significant problem.

As others have asked, did you even install Java in the first place? The way to find out is also the way to disable it.
Open "Java Preferences" (found in /Applications/Utilities/). If it offers to download Java then you don't have it. Just say no.
If it is there then uncheck all the boxes that are currently checked and it will be disabled.
If at any time in the future a piece of software or web site requires Java, it will tell you.
Safari menu -> Preferences -> Security. There's the checkbox right there.
Safari > Preferences > Security > Web Content
Uncheck the box Enable Java
Best.
Did you even turn on Java in the first place? It will only get installed if you run a Java program, and the system will ask you if you want to install Java.
So you got the Flashback Trojan on your Mac?
I've had Java enabled forever (must use it for school) and haven't managed to find a site that is infected.
Did you really manage to get infected or are you just freaking out for no reason?
