plug in not working

I have a few plug ins, like Nik Color Efex 3, for instance. They load and appear to work, but when I save out of the plug in, the resulting new image is identical to the old one. So the plug in hasn't done anything. This is the case for all plug ins in Aperture, but they work fine in Photoshop. Any idea why this is or what to do?
