Audio CDs never play

Hi All

I bought a Powermac G4 400Mhz with 256 Ram a few months ago as a basic internet comp. I assumed the CD-RW drive would be able to play audio CDs, but this is not the case. It will play all CD-ROM (i.e. with software on), but with audio none work. It's a Philips PCRW1208, which does NOT support disc burning (as it states in system profiler). It's Protocol is ATAPI, if that makes any difference.

Would greatly appreciate your thoughts as I have not been able to rearrange my iPod library in over 6 months!

Hi

That model G4 never came with a CD burner, and the one you list was never supplied by Apple, hence the lack of burn support.

However, that really has no bearing on any drive's ability to read audio vs. data when it comes to CD's.

Check your SysPref/Hardware/CD&DVD"s settings for Audio CD's, if it is set to "IGNORE", it will do exactly that.

Since the drive can read other CD's, it is unlikely to be a hardware issue.
