I downloaded TV shows to my IPad 1 but cannot watch the shores. When I tap on the show, I get a mesasge syaing "waiting." Does any know what the probelm is or what I need to do to watch the show?

Usually that means that the download has not completed and that is why you get the "waiting" message/icon. Try tapping on the icon and see if the download will resume.
If you live in the U.S. Canada, the UK or Australia, you can download purchased TV shows again for free so you could try deleting the waiting icon and then download the shows again.
You can also try signing out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign back in to your account again and see if the shows will download. Settings>Store>Apple ID is where you can sign in and out of your account on the iPad.
