I've been getting this message for three days when trying to download Flipboard app. Is the service overloaded or something?

It asks me to set and answer three security hints then says to try later.

Hey I tried this [basically] from my iPhone 4S. I've experienced similar issues like this since first using my AppleID waaay back in the day as they say, especially since iPhone [1] & every time it has to do with a little quirk with your Apple ID & payment Info. Here's what I did on my iPhone 4S but is same with almost ALL iPhones & iPods & fundamentally the same w/the iPad as well & all Apple devices using iTunes. It's one of those things so simple it's complicated-for us veterans anyways & for those of you newer to this just know it's fundamentally the same-just a little bit different as far as the interface of getting to it from each different yet great Apple device:). Anyways, here's what I did on my iPhone, hope this helps;

1) click on settings

2) go to Store Settings -or- Apple Store Settings

3) click on "View Apple ID"

a) enter your AppleID password when prompted

4) now click on payment method

5) select "None" as described above

b) then select "save" or "done"

6) back-out completely now like your going to use your iPhone/device as usual

7) locate your App Store App & select/open it

8) search for & select a free app you like -or- a paid one, doesn't matter yet

9) enter your Apple ID password when prompted & it will AGAIN take you to the 3 questions thingy (technical term;))

10) choose your 3 questions & their answers accordingly

11) now I left the rescue email or whatever it's called if otherwise blank but I don't think it matters as my friend entered hers while we did this together on our separate accounts & in the end both ways worked. Again I doubt it has anything to do with that-it's about some kinda scrub in the system needed or whatever (scrub sounds good/appropriate/like I actually know what I'm talking about;) -which I think I do here actually however;))

12) Hit "Done" on keyboard pop-up thingy (that tech term again;))

a) then hit "Done" or "Save" at top left of window/screen &

If you DL'd a free app;

A pop-up will say you can now DL the App "Such-n-So" (or whatever it's name is)

a) go back into settings & re-enter your cc info under Payment Method in App Store Settings in Settings & Voila! Good as new!

If you DL'd a paid App or selected to do so I should say;

A pop-up will ask you to enter your payment method CC info

a) enter your cc info again & confirm your billing address info & stuff at bottom in case different than your Apple ID one then enter your cc billing address info & if same as Apple ID one then confirm it anyway;)

Voila! A pop-up will say thank you...yada yada! & your App DL will begin as usual.

Hope this helps- I'm as positive as I can be after experiencing similar but never really major situations like this since it all began. Best of luck to you all!

I had this from Apple... didn't work for me but may for you:

Here are instructions to delete your credit card information from your iTunes Store account:

1) Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. It can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple website at:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download

Note: Installing the latest version of iTunes will not affect your library or any items in your account that you haven't downloaded.

2) To launch iTunes and be taken to your Apple Account Information page, click this link:

https://phobos.apple.com/accountSummary

(If you are not already signed in, you will need to enter your iTunes Store account name and password and then click the Account Info button to sign in.)

3) The Apple Account Information page will appear. On this page, click the Edit Payment Information button, which is the second button from the top.

4) On the Edit Payment Information page, select "None" from the list of credit card types. This will delete your billing information.

5) Be sure to click the Done button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.

Now that has been removed, I need to you go to appleid.apple.com to make sure all your security questions are set up properly.

1. Select Manage Your Account.

2. Enter your iTunes username and password

3. Select "Password and Security" from the list on the left.

4. Change security question and answer and make sure your security question are correct

5. Click "Save Changes".

Once that is done, I need for you to try making another purchase (you will be asked to add your credit card) - at which time you can add your card and complete the purchase.

I hope this clarifies your concerns.

Sorry, not an answer for you here. Same issue! I'm working on trying to figure it out (if there is anythign we can re-enter, reset, etc. to get this fixed).

Flipboard is awesome! I feel for you. I'm trying to get Total War Battles.

Edit:

Wow, that was quick. I signed out of my iTunes account (on my Mac), signed back in, went into the accounts. Clicked on my payment method and just re-entered my security PIN (as it had the rest still). Hit Done. Then hit Done again on the first page. Bought the app, entered the questions, and now it's downloading...

I'm having the same problem, i.e., it won't allow me to update the security info by answering the three questions. I keep getting the error on my iPad, Mac and PC that it can't connect to the iTunes Store and try to try again later. I've been on the phone with Apple, but they have no fix and think it's a problem with my account, which it obviously isn't. It's been escalated and I sent my contact a few threads showing it's a system error, but he's out until Tuesday so I don't expect a quick fix. If anyone has a solution, please post (the above one didn't work for me).

But if you delete your account:

1. Are you sure it will allow you to recreate the exact same account, i.e., it may say it's already taken even though you deleted it.

2. If you are able to recreate the account, will it be viewed as a new account or will it re-associate itself with your old account so you get all your purchases etc?

What I did was set up a new account. When I had to answer the 3 security questions (which it does now for new accounts), it took a while, but it finally accepted it. However, if I now use this account, do you know if there is any way to get iTunes to sync apps purchased with the new account AND the old account? Also, if I buy an app via my iPad with the new account, is there a way to get it to back up in iTunes?

Hi again

I created a new Apple ID complete with debit card details, and it went looking for apps like a good 'un. Seems to download fine.

What I now need is for Apple to delete all references to my original account so I can use the same sign-in and password and start again. Not sure they'll do that though. Do you have to have a separate email account for each ID? I'm running out!

I authorised the ipad and it found all previous purchases and imatch.

On phone with Apple right now. They have me on hold while they get a Sr. Advisor. Let yow know of the outcome.

I did that yesterday and spoke to them for hours. They then even escalated further and I ultimately got an email from a senior advisor telling me he wanted to test my account, but he would need to reset my password. At the time I didn't know it was an Apple systems issue and thought it was my account. I have since emailed him with more info (and a number of thread links), but he's out until Tuesday. I'm obviously not going to give him the info to reset my password unless I know it will fix the issue and since it's an Apple systems issue, I don't think that will do it. Hopefully, enough people will complain so that they will fix this. In the meantime, I established a new account and authorized my computer for that account and so I can at least purchase, sync and backup my apps.

Well I have finally got them to escalate it to the engineering deparment. They have finallly realised it is not my omputer, iphone, or ipad. Nor my 3G service or Wifi. I am suppose to be contacted by the SR. Advisor within the next 24 to 48 hrs. She even gave me her personal contact info. I guess you must learn to be firm with them. Let you know what comes of this. On the phone from 9am to 4pm with them today.

That's exactly what happened with me and then I did hear from the Sr. Advisor, but that't the person that just wants to test my account name and I would need to reset my password to do that. Maybe you'll hear something better.

So I guess my method only worked for me?

Recap:

Sign into account using iTunes. View account details. Edit payment. Re-enter the code from the back of your debit/credit card. Hit Done. Hit done again on next page.

Proceed to purchase a free or paid app. Enter security questions and (hopefully) it will work this time.

I was getting the same error until I did this.

Good luck everyone!
