i have an ipad and an itouch....how can i call my own ipad if i leave it at home via my itouch?

You'll have to set up a different mail address than you have on your iPod touch.
This address has to be selected or removed in Settings/messages/Receive on each of the devices. If you have identical addresses on your devices, you can't call on FaceTime.
