can't get rid of Untitled DVD.fpbf after trying to write onto bad DVD

I apparenlty had a bad set of DVDs, which I discovered by having tried to back up some data onto them. Fair enough. But the problem occurs after the bad disc is discovered. When finder discovers (and reports) that the disc is bad, I am forever unable to "remove" the burn folder entries listed on the lower-left panel of the finder window. This happens for every disc fails, so I now have a list of these unremovable burn folders down there. I can't drag them to the trash can, and I can't open them (the error says the folder can't be found).

what now?

I sometimes have a similar probem with good CDs after burning remaining as burnable CD icons in the left panel of Finder even after the burnt CD is ejected. My solution is to click the burn button and then on the resulting dialogue to click the eject button. Once you get your error about folder not found and OK that you should still have the DVD selected and so be able to "burn" and "eject."

It seems to me there are only two possiblities:

1. The aborted burn folder actually still exists somewhere and so keeps reappearing, or
2. A permanent entry for it got recorded to the sidebar plist file even though the thing is actually gone

If it is there but no longer visible a search using something that sees invisibles, such as find in the Terminal or EasyFind should turn it up. If it exists only in the Sidebar's imagination, then removing

"/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist"

and logging out/in should get rid of the spurious entries.

If Francine's solution does not work, you should be able to remove seeing all removable media in the sidebar via Finder preferences. Not ideal, but possible with Tiger because of its Burn Folders, but then you would not see any more CDs, etc.
To actually rid yorself of them, have you tried using Disk Utilities? If they appeared in its sidebar and you could highlight a burn symbol then the eject button on the horizontal toolbar should become useable.
I should add that my sole Tiger licence is now used on an ibook without a DVD writer. The eMac with superdrive is back on Panther again.
