HDMI and Facetime

I'm using an HDMI cable to connect my iPhone 4 or iPad 2 to a Samsung HD TV. Picture is fine but no audio except for the phone or iPad speakers which won't be enough for the audience I want to see and hear everything.

There are work-arounds with mini plugs and external sound system but would like to make it simple by just using the HDMI cable. Same problem with my MacBook Pro (early 2008 version) connected.

I'm trying to setup the TV for my parents (90's) so they can attend my sister - their daughter's - funeral this weekend.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks . . .

I have a Samsung HD TV in my house and if you connect the iPad to the TV via HDMI it should work through the tv speakers. Make sure that when using FaceTime that it is not on mute. Hope that helps!

I have the correct cable from Apple and FaceTime is NOT on mute because we hear it in all 3 devices we're tried (iPad 2, iPhone 4, MacBook Pro). Same result - no audio from the TV.

We did check audio settings for FaceTime as well as and the devices. Someone suggested to try Skype instead.
