Airport Extreme slower than wireless router

My Airport Extreme Base Station is plugged in directly to my wireless router. If I connect with my laptop wirelessly to the router connection I get speeds of 16MB, but only 9MB when connected to the Airport Extreme.

Any ideas/advice as to why this may be the case and possible solutions would be appreciated.

Since you have your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) connected directly to another wireless router upstream of it, how do you have the AEBS configured? That is, is is configured as a bridge?
