I have set up icloud on my imac, new ipad and iphone 4 to sync documents and data; I realize that only documents created with iWork will work. However, none of the documents, saved as a Pages document (from Word) appear in either my iPad or Iphone or any document that I create with Pages and paste text into will not appear on my iphone or new ipad.
Ideas welcome.

Where are you creating these documents, if it is on your Mac, are you moving them to iCloud.com in order for them to show all on your iOS devices.
Have you enabled documents and data syncing on all your devices.
I am using Word documents on my iMac which I save as a Pages Document and I thought they'd automatically sync with my mobile devices. I am not moving them to iCloud. Is that what I have to do? How do I do so? Will documents I create on my ipad for example, automatically sync with my imac and iphone 4??

Yes you need to upload your pages documents to iCloud through a web browser at iCloud.com. Once you have uploaded them, they will become available in pages on all your iOS devices. Once you have worked on them on an iOS device, if you want them on your Mac again, you will need to download them from the iCloud.com website.
Thanks. I thought you just had to turn on icloud on you devices according to the apple videos. If you have to upload documents and then download them, it would easier just to use the old fashioned way and email them to yourself. It certainly seem more cumbersome then any Apple info seem to indicate.

I uploaded from my Page document on my computer to Iworks (Icloud) and then it downloaded to my iphone and ipad successfully. I edited the document on my iphone but it did not change the originally document on my computer; is this as it should be? In all three devices, icloud is set on for documents and data.

It won't change the original document on the computer, you'll need to download the modified document from iCloud.com.
