how can I stop my mac constantly looking for wifi

My Mac (osx Lion) is constantly looking for wifi networks.

I recently changed provider and have a new router and thought this may help but it the same.

On a windows vista laptop I have I found a setting to alter how often the laptop looks for WiFi signal.

Is there a setting on the mac that will do similar?

Thanks

If you think it is constantly looking for WiFi networks because it says it is looking when you drop down the WiFi menu, it's not constantly looking. It is updating the menu with currently available networks.

If you've got some other reason to believe it is constantly looking for networks, please post more details on how you know.
