Q: Everytime my apple imac boots I have two windows appear. Each with a similar message regarding 'Insecure Startup Items folder Detected' There are no apps in the Startup folder. Can you please advise how to remove these messages ?

I suggest you first open Disk Utility and Repair Permissions. Then go to your /Home/Library/ folder. If you find a StartupItems folder just delete it. See if that fixes it.
