mac book saying up to date with version 10.6.8

I am realizing that the reason the icloud on my mac book has not been working is that it is still on version 10.6.8, when icloud requires version 10.7 something. When I try to look for updates, it says it is up to date.

How do I download the version that icloud requires when the computer doesn't find it as an update?
