imac G4 won't start up

I have a 2003 17" flatpanel imac (1 GHz).

I've been using it for the specific purpose of running some old OS9 software.

It's the only way I have to get to some old files.

It's been working fine.

Then, after a shut down, I cannot get it to restart.

Push the power button. Nothing. No sound. Nothing.

I've uplugged it for 30 seconds and replugged and tried to restart.

Nothing.

Is there any other type of power management restart I can try?

I have several other newer macs, all running 10.6 or 10.7, which I use for 90% of my work.

But this one machine is my only link to these old (OS 9) files which I still need to access.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If nothing works I'll take it to the repair shop and hope they can get it going again.

This is the PMU (power management) reset procedure for the iMac G4.

If you have been connecting the power cord to an old (or overcrowded) power strip, try connecting it directly to a wall outlet by itself. Also, during the initial power up attempt, only connect the power cord (keep all peripherals disconnected).

If you've never replaced the PRAM battery on that iMac, it is probably getting weak or dead. That can cause startup issues. The procedure to replace the PRAM battery can be found here (select your particular iMac G4 model)
