How do I know if it's running. Mine just installed... then nothing.

I installed this twice. I have no idea if it's running. Frustrating. Why wouldn't it remove or recognize a previously downloaded version of itself? Macs do that with all their applications I guess. For some reason I have two versions of other operating suites- anyway to the original point. How do i run this application after it has been installed????
