spotlight search on Time Capsule

Another apple question...please tell me that I can search data stored in my Time Capsule's drive...(spotlight)...otherwise, I will kill myself, then rise from the dead to return the TC and then kill myself again!!!

I am also having the same problem. I have tried the above to no avail. Pascal how do you access the disk in finder as you have shown.

My time capsule is connected wirelessly as i gave up in the end trying to establish a direct ethernet connection.

Hi wellos,

My Time Capsule is also connected wirelessly. If your Mac is connected to the same network, you should see it in the Sidebar of the Finder along with the other available devices on your Network.

If you don't see it, make sure that "Enable file sharing" is checked for your Time Capsule in AirPort Utility.

Like this:

Now in order to re-index the backup volume for Spotlight - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2409 - you will probably need to mount the .sparsebundle disk image for the specific backup volume as well. Just double-click on it.

Please let me know if it works,

Hi Pascal thanks for responding.

My mac is 10.7.4 and I am unable to drag over the time capsule into the privacy settings box - it just flicks back.

i can see the time capsule in the sidebar and everything works fine. I can retrieve and view all files just unable to do a search. heres a screen shot of what i have.

I changed the air utility to show what you have and it didnt change anything - still doesnt search.

That's normal. Don't drag the folder but instead double-click on it. You should then find at least one .sparsebundle disk image:

Now double-click on the .sparsebundle file. This shall mount a volume like this one:

It is that white icon that you want to drag to the Privacy list. You shall now be able to proceed with: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2409?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Please let me know if it works. I really hope it can solve your issue with indexing.

Hi pascal really appreciate your help here but still no go.

If I do that command you suggest then i get this

User uploaded file

but then if i double click the time capsule it then just shows the folders inside and not the white disk even if i do the command you suggest. I tried to drag the blue icon and that let me do that - then i took it out and tried a search and still not working.

Hi Wellos,

What you try to get spotlight to work is go to Finder Preferences. Just select Finder on the grey top menu bar and then pref.

In there go to advanced tab and select for Search: Search the current Folder.

Then go to the Time Capsule, double click on the blue disk icon until you see you r folders again Music etc. and then use the search section in the finder window to search for your desired file.

I hope this helps everyone out there with troubles on this issue.

Cheers

Hi MACPRO

I thought finally someone may have found a solution to this but once again this doesnt work. I already had that selcted anyway. I have tried everything, it seems to be a very common issue and as yet i have found no solution.

I can not search in my time capsule which to me seems absolutely ridiculous as I bought it for a wireless ext HD and can't even do a simple search. I am waiting for apple to perhaps release a patch or update so it can solve this problem.

Thanks anyway
