Key Chain Access won't open - crashes - please help!

Key Chain Access won't open - crashes - please help!

I had to hard reset my laptop the other day and a few things happened - I had to rebuilt the microsoft entourage database which is now fine but Key Chain Access crashes everytime I try to open it!

Have repaired all permissions etc.

I've all of a sudden realised how much of a pain this is as I dont have my passwords anywhere else! Arrrgh!

I hope its not a virus or anything like that?

Using a macbook pro 2.66, 10.5.8

Helllo,

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does Keychain Access work in the new account?

Hi sorry for my late reply - I've lasted this long without my keychain but now really need it!

I tried what you suggested and keychain still crashes when trying to open it.

What can I do to fix this?

Could be many things, we should start with this...

"Try Disk Utility

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.

3. Click the First Aid tab.

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

I have been struggling with this problem for days and your last step, after step 5, "Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup)" worked!

Once I booted in Safe Mode, it allowed me to update my Apple ID and iCloud settings without hanging forever. I literally fixed the problem within one minute of loging in after following your suggestion for a Safe Boot.

I also reset my Apple ID password.

In my case, it turned out that the Sunrise calendar app had their servers hacked and I got an email recommending that I reset my Apple ID and change my password.

The Safe Boot that BDAqua recommended then allowed me to update the settings on the MacBook Air without getting constant prompts that were paralyzing the computer.

i know this was a very long time ago but i made a new admin account and it doesn't come up on that account but it does on my other admin account, what do i do!!!!!
