Q: I have connected a Canon iP100 series printer and tried downloading the software. It stops 1/3 of the way through and says the software is not available, but on the Apple website it notes that it is available. What is the problem?

I am having trouble downloading printer software.

I try adding the printer and get a message aprt way through the download process saying the software is not available.

Yet when I check the Apple webiste for available software it is listed as being available.

This has happened twice and it is since I downloaded Lion

What do I need to do to correct this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

The issue can be due to a previous version of the Canon driver being resident on the Mac. If you were printing to the iP100 on 10.6 and then updated the OS to Lion without first removing the Canon driver, then this can be a cause.

To fix, open Finder and navigate to HD > Library > Printers > Canon > BJPrinters and trash the contents of this folder. Then disconnect the iP100 USB cable from the Mac, empty the Trash and restart your Mac. When you have logged back in after the restart, connect the iP100 USB cable and open Print & Scan. The driver should get downloaded and installed from Apple's Software Update and the printer automatically added to Print & Scan.
