The Apple publicity says ...
On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button. iOS devices will start playing tracks from iCloud as they download and will store them so that you can listen to them later even if you don’t have a network connection. Apple TV only streams songs.

I have loaded my entire iTunes library on my IMac to iCloud with iTunes Match. (successfully completed)

Now I want to download (not stream) the entire iTunes Match library (including iTunes non-purchased music) in the iCloud back to my IMac iTunes library (to benefit amongst other things to better bit rate recordings) but cannot find the "the iCloud download button" on  iTunes on the iMac.

What have I not understood in this process ?

Can somebody tell me how to download the iCloud music to iTunes on an iMac ?

many thanks

Stuart

If the content is already in your library, you don't need to download it because it's already there. You'd need to delete it from your library first.

    The Apple website says "

Matched songs in your local library will not automatically be transcoded to 256 kbps AAC. To obtain a higher quality transcoding, download the matched songs from iCloud.

    -----------------------------------------------------

Which is exactly what I want to do; obtain a higher quality transcoding by downloading the matched songs from iCloud.

The cloud icon next to the tune does not provide a download option in my iTunes (it does provide for upload !), so my question remains, how to provoke a download of the transcoded (to 256 kbps) tune  ?

I've already answered your question. You already have the content in your librtary, you have no need to download it and so you don't get a download button. Delete it from your library and the download button will appear.

Sorry WC, but it is not clear how I can download a tune, that I have just deleted, and presumably no longer appears in the iTunes Music lists .....  I must be missing something ?

The reason to download is to get the higher quality transcoding into my library on my iMac (for playing off line from the iCloud).

You can't download any tunes that are stored in iCloud whilst you have a copy of it in your library, once you delete the original from your library (The entry for the item you delete will stay in the list in iTunes) a download icon will appear alongside the listing in iTunes.

    Thanks for the tip Winston.

For the sake of clarity, I have uploaded around 10,000 tunes, and have used Match to put as many of them as possible in iCloud. (I have several hundreds that didn't make it)

I therefore have many with iCloud status Matched, Uploaded, and some Duplicate, Waiting and Ineligible.

It is the Matched and Uploaded ones that I would like "refreshed in my iTunes library to get the "offline - with iCloud switched off" advantage of playing higher grade recordings on my mobile devices.

What would be your suggestion for performing this iTunes delete and iCloud download process, without losing music feom iTunes ?

For example how do I identify in the iTunes library that music which is Matched or Uploaded status ?

Is would be ideal to find a process of doing this downoad through the iTunes interface.

Thanks for your help and suggestions

Whoops sorry, I meant to say I wanted to download the Matched songs, as presumably there is no transformation of Uploaded to higher grade recordings ..

I'm not aware that you can tell the difference between a tune that has been matched and one that has had to be uploaded, until you delete them and re-download them.

in iTunes the iCloud status clearly shows the different status of each music such as: Matched, Uploaded, Duplicate, Waiting and Ineligible.

Unfortunately it only shows the status of tunes that are not in iTunes match (which doesn't include uploaded or matched)

Winston the status shown in the URL you gave http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4124 show just anomalies. There are two other status: Matched and Uploaded shown.

So take a look at  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4915

    This solves my problem:

1 First I needed to delete all Matched in my iTunes (select all, then Delete, BUT do not click the checkbox to also delete the item from iCloud.)

2 The Matched ones remain in the iTunes list, with an iCloud icon with a "down arrow" inside the iCloud icon, signifying "can be downloaded".

3 Then select "all" those Matched ones again and with cntrl click and chose Download from the drop down menu, and hey presto, iTunes starts to download and replace all the previously deleted Matched songs in your iTunes library with their clean 256kb version. The Matched status stays in place and the iCloud icon with the downarrow disappears one by one as each song is downloaded.

    4. Itunes seems to be downloading 3 songs simultaneously and takes on average about 3-4 seconds a song on my iMAC

I hope this helps you too.

Thanks for your help and ideas, but this definately seems to be working ...am still downloading at the moment.

I'll let u know if there were any hiccups during the download process.

Sorry, you're correct about the status, I have mine turned off.

However with respect the method for re-downloading at 256 kb per second is the one I told you about.

Thanks Stuart, your steps highlighted above, assisted me with a similar issue – as what you had.
