No longer possible to save or print PDF files from browsers

I am suddenly having a problem saving or printing PDF files from the browser, but it extends to all browsers in OS X. I can view the PDF normally but if I try to print as PDF all it shows is two black pages. Then if I try to save as a PDF it tells me the document could not be exported. I just tried this with a PDF and the only way I could get it was via Windows running on Parallels. I've already tried resetting the printer by removing and adding it again with the alt key pressed but this made no difference.

This all started about a week or so ago and I just ignored it at first thinking it was something wrong with a particular file but now it's happening in all cases. I'm running the latest 10.7.3 on a new Mac Pro and everything is up to date. Does anybody know what might be causing this?

Thanks

Ashley

Quit Safari.

Open the Library folder in your home folder as follows:

If running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar.

If running an older version of Mac OS X, select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar and enter “~/Library” (without the quotes) in the text box that opens.

Delete the following items from the Library folder:

Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist

Preferences/QuickTime Preferences

Relaunch Safari and test.

In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:

/Library/Internet Plug-ins/AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin

If a Finder window opens with that item selected, delete it, then quit and relaunch Safari. Otherwise post again.

Hi: Instead of deleting the plugin "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin" you can use it's functionality. If you place your cursor over your document you can see a print and save icons and you can use them. You can also see and "Acrobat" symbol which when clicked opens the plugin menu in the Safari page. If you have deleted the plugin you can reinstall Adobe Reader and the plugin will be reinstalled too.

I had the same problem. Apparently (as I understood from another post about the same problem) it appeared after updating the Acrobat software (Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional 8.3.1).

The solution did work for me (Safari 5.1.5 on Mac OS 10.6.8).

Now I'm back to the old situation where the pdf file shows up smaller on the screen (no more as wide as the screen, but as high as the screen) and to go back a page I again need to use the Back button of Safari, instead of sweeping on the trackpad.

However the main reason to reply on this post is the question whether someone (of Apple ?) does notify Adobe about this problem or do they observe these kind of posts?

As I mentioned before, I did not delete the "AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin" plugin. I just don't use the Safari "print" and "save" commands. I move the cursor above the document, near the bottom, and Adobe "print" and "save" commands appear. I use them without any problem. If you have deleted the plugin you can reinstall Adobe Reader and the plugin will be reinstalled too.

Thanks rgonzaleza for your replies. I already noticed it, after replacing the plugin. (Such files never go into the trash bin, but to some other directory, just in case ...)

What I dont' like is that companies like Adobe do not comply to standards. When saving files I just want to use Cmd-S and not being bothered with another "new and easy" way of doing things.

The better standardization is why I like Apple and hate Microsoft.
