iPhone 3gs runs into a CRC error while on the phone

Hi there,

My iPhone 3gs (8gb) runs into a so called CRC Error once every now and then while I am on the phone.

What happens? While I am on the phone, the entire iPhone crashes and reboots. The error log shows a panic log entry with a simple "CRC ERR!" description.

When I just had the phone, this occured almost every time I was on the phone for longer than 5 to 10 minutes. I have sent it back to apple but they did not find anything wrong with both hard and software and shipped it back to me unchanged. After they checked it, I had no problems for a few weeks but today, it happened again...

Since I got the phone back, I did not change anything in the settings nor did I install any new apps. The only thing I can think of is that I enabled iTunes WiFi synchronization the day before yesterday.

Does anyone recognize this issue or have any suggestions? I am a bit reluctant to send it to apple again as I am pretty sure they will not find anything.

Thanks!

Same problem here with iPhone 4-s. Apple dealt with the problem in exactly th same way. The phone worked fine for a 2 weeks and now it started all over again. I was pretty sure this was an I-phone4S issue but you have a 3GS. Very confused now. I don't know what to say...I restored the phone as new from recovery mode but nothing seems to work...

A short update: I tried the solutions you proposed in this thread (thanks for that) but... nothing worked. After another call with apple support center in The Netherlands, I asked for an express replacement of my phone. That did the trick. Since then, everything works as it is supposed to.

In my view, the issue seems to be hardware related: a full restore did not work and installing the same apps on a new phone does not cause any issues. Although the support center does not support this view, I am pretty convinced that the phone itself was faulty.

My suggestion would be to contact Apple support and send in the phone for service. Unfortunately, Apple (at least here in The Netherlands) will only replace a new product at no cost after they have had it in for service at least four to five times. If you want a replacement before that and save the hassle of sending it in over and over again and if you don’t have apple care, they will charge you.

I had issues during iPhone 3GS restore. You name, all error codes appear like 1600, 1604, 9, 21, 2654. I replaced 3 different USB sync cables (Original), changed computers, Windows/Mac, created brand new accounts on PC to get a fresh start. Got White screen, hung up Apple logo. You name it.

After 100 plus attempts when the phone restored, it will suddenly reboot and stuck at Apple logo. Diagnostic shows CRC errors, resetCounter.

Brand new battery resolved all issues. Just replace the freaking battery before breaking your head and burn midnight oil for days and nights.

save yourself the nightmare.
