can I use iCloud for my actual iPhone?

If it's the iPhone 3GS, yes it's compatible with iCloud. Unfortunately the iPhone 3G is not.

have another problem. there is a software update available for my itunes (version 5.1)
I would like to make the update but there is a message saying that if I do update the version, I will lose the apps,media and bought articles. in order to keep your data, you have to sinchronise your mac.
I have no idea what shouldn't be up to date.

I haven't heard of anyone else getting that message before.
Have you not updated your phone for a while, the message might make sense if you haven't.
Basically, it's telling you to connect to iTunes on your computer, back up first and then update via iTunes on the computer.
I did get such a message for the first time.
I did check the software updates for my mac - everything fine
I did check Itunes updates in general - everything fine - got the Version (10.6.1) which is the lates one
that's why I do not undestand why all my content will be deleted, if I do want to update my Iphone.
there should be another solution for that I hope
