ITunes and iPhone syncing Contacts is taking a long time (much longer than usual without finisinhing). It seems like the process locks up or freezes.

Try restarting you iPhone and Mac. Be sure to quite iTunes. After restarting, then try to sync again. How big is your contact list? Is this the first time you have tried to sync your contacts?

I have 154 contacts and have been syncing for the last year without problems. This problem just started today.
I also disabled sync contacts and then tried syncing. Calendar, Bookmarkes, Notes synced without problem. I then enabled sync contacts again and the probelem re-surfaced.
Have you tried syncing ONLY you contacts?
Try replacing the contacts on your phone with the ones in Address Book on your mac. First back your contacts using the free app My Contacts Backup. This will backup your contacts as an email attachment. Send the email to yourself and, if needed, you can later open it and tap on the attachment to re-import your contacts. Next connect your phone to your computer and on the Info tab of your iTunes sync settings, under Advanced>Replace information on this iPhone, check Contacts. Apply and sync. This will replace your iPhone contacts with your mac Address Book contacts. Try syncing again to see if contacts sync normally again.
Yes tried contacts only but no difference.
Have you added a new addition to your contact list just before you tried to sync your data?
