Q: Old Macbook won't charge with new Air Charger?

I have an old 2006 White Macbook and I'm trying to charge it on a charger that's for the new Macbook Air. The battery icon won't show up, but it works while plugged in. I tried to download the SMC firmware update, but my Macbook said I didn't need it and quit once instalation began. Does anyone have any advice on what to do? Thanks so much!

The MacBook Air is a 45 watt charger, the MacBook requires at least a 60 watt charger. You can use a higher wattage charger but not a lower wattage one.

You can get a new third party power adapter on eBay for about $20
