Can't sync music to ipad 2

Ok so I have an iPad 2. I am having trouble syncing content, especially music, to it. Sometimes when I connect my iPad to my pc, it tries to sync my entire iTunes library of about 1000 songs to my iPad, which is troublesome because then I have to go and delete all of those songs. Basically all I want to do is transfer a few albums from my iTunes library to my iPad, but it's not letting me. When I try to drag and drop the albums to my iPad on the left column of iTunes, nothing happens. It doesn't say syncing (insert album name) to my iPad. I tried unchecking all the songs in my library so that they wouldnt all auto sync, ad instead only checking off the songs that I wanted to sync to my iPad, same result. Music won't coy to my iPad. I'm currently running iOS 5.1. I recently updated my dads iPod touch (4th gen) to iOS 5.1 and also was able to transfer this music to his iPod using the EXACT SAME PC, but for some reason it won't work for my iPad. Don't know if it matters or not, but might be worth noting that these devices are NOT jailbroken nor have ever been, or are running any third party operating systems. Like I said, just iOS 5.1. Does anyone know why this is happenning? I would really appreciate a solution to this. Thanks!

Did you already try to reset the iPad by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data, but it can cure some glitches after installing new software.

Did you try to switch back to let iTunes sync the music by selecting the albums and playlists from the music pane? If this works, switch back to manually managing the content again.

Open itunes - connect device by usb, when device summary page opens (clicking device icon at left to do this)

In <options> at bottom of page tick box - Manually manage music and videos

A tick in the box to limit higher bit rate songs to 128kbps does not do any harm either and will save you some space.

192 and 256 kbps are true high fidelity sampling rates and you would want real high quality speakers to appreciate the kind of detail these high rates can handle.

Open the device Music tab at top of page, tick the Sync Music box and select Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres. not the Entire music library option.

To avoid duplication when restoring from different backup sources only select one format in the lower pane list views. I prefer to use the Albums list, though creating your own playlists is probably better for tailoring large libraries with hundreds or perhaps thousands of songs.

Note that the Library Music tab from list at left displays all music currently synced to your iPad, NOT what is available in your library or Media Folder. Use the iPad icon (highlight by clicking) then in the main page use the Music tab (between Apps and Films) to select what to sync.

If you have music in more than one type of list and you have the option to keep your media folder organised - Edit\Preferences\Advanced tab - Keep media folder organised; it can lead to duplication across different list. I prefer to keep this bos unticked when manually managing files.

Wow, thank you so much Coppertiger. I was able to transfer the music successfully to the iPad with the method you said. You really helped me out. My confusion was mainly because of why I couldn't drag and drag the music on to my iPad in iTunes, and it still makes me wonder, but I guess this ethos will do as well. Thanks a ton!

(For the record, everything I typed in this discussion was on my iPad 2. Thank you auto correct. That's why I made no spelling mistakes, I think.... hmmm.... lol)

Happy to have been of help to you. Just a quick note for you when using these pages. If you look to the right of the page there's an area called Legend. if someone helps you or solves your problem just click on the relavent link to indicate it. This helps to close threads and provides a resource indicator for others with similar experiences looking for a solution. best wishes. Ct
