Mic not working on iPad 2

Hi guys I got a problem with my iPad 2 white 32 gb wifi only microphone volume. I bought my iPad 2 when it first came out it fits my needs worked well since I got it but a couple months ago I have been getting problems with my mic when I talk to people via apps such as Skype and FaceTime , everyone tells me my mic is too low but a couple months before the mic stopped working it was working fine they can hear me from far away. So now they can't hear me unless I yell straight into the mic. The bad thing is, is that my warranty on the iPad just ran out is there a way I can get mic fixed or put warranty on it so they can fix the iPad, because I use my iPad a lot and I talk to people on here so I would like this problem to be fixed.

Thanks guys if you now a solution tell me ASAP thanks!

Put a vacuum to the mic in case there is dirt in it!

I can confirm vacuuming the mic worked for me. I hadn't used the mic on the iPad 2 for quite a few months, then noticed when trying a VOIP telephone call, the other person could not hear me at all. Vacuuming the mic (tiny hole on the centre, top edge of the iPad) restored the mic to normal.

A tip, when vacuuming, get as much suction as you can by using the crevice tool attachhment on the vaccum and using your fingers to close off as much of the nozzzel opening as possible to maximize the suction. I noticed it took about 30 seconds of vaccumming before the mic worked again. 5-10 seconds wasn't enough. So if it doesn't work at first, keep vacuuming.

The mic is as good as new. Now, on a VOIP call, I can hear the wall clock ticking away at the other person's end. The iPad makes a great conference phone. That mic is super sensitive.

Thanks to all the other posters on this forum for the mic repair tips. It really has saved my iPad as it's out of warranty.

I tried the vacuum trick a few weeks ago with my Ipad2 3g 64gb and nothing happened. I checked the microphone recess with a magnifying glass and a flashlight and it was spotless anyways.

I got fed up with it tonight and just decided out of desperation to try the vacuum again. I attached duct tape from the crevice attachment to the ipad so that there would be maxium suction and after 30 seconds, BOOM!

It worked. And now, the microphone works.

Dumbfounded.

Vacuuming worked perfectly! Here's what I suggest:

- turn iPad off completely

-locate microphone (do not confuse with camera). The mic is on the edge, adjacent to the camera, which is on the screen. If you are not sure, go to your manual or to <images.google.com> and search for "iPad 2 microphone." You will see there an illustration of the mic location.

-attach the crevice tool (for more effective suction effect) to your vacuum cleaner and vacuum the mic area for about 30 seconds, making sure you move it around to produce different angles of suction.

-reboot your iPad and test the microphone (for example, make a Skype test call or dictate a voice memo or dictate to the Dragon app, etc.).

Good luck!

Vacuuming the mike is the FIRST trick you should try if your mi,e is not working properly. I wasted a phone call to tech support and upon his recommendation (he made an appt for me) I wasted an hour trip to the nearest Apple store all to be told that my only option was to send it in for another for $249.....it was out of warrenty by 2 1/2 months!! I got home and found all the great post here and got the vacuum out! I couldn't believe it....works just fine now!!

I could not get the vacuum trick to work but I took mine to the apple store and told them about the problem and the vacuum trick....the fellow took a little brush and cleaned it out and it works perfectly at no cost to me. This was after the apple techs online had me do everything immaginable for 2-3 hours to no avail. The idea was the same...dirt was in the mic!
