iTunes doesn't see iPhone 4s PC recognizes iPhone as camera

My problem has a step by step solution given by Apple, but it doesn't work.

On my PC with Windows XP, I try to connect my iPhone 4s with iTunes but as it says in the title, iTunes doesn't recognize the iPhone whereas Windows recognizes it as a camera.

What have I tried so far:

reinstall itunes

reset settings on iPhone

battery is always charged

Please help me, I'm at my wits' end.

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1
