I don't know the details on locking. If it's just a 4 digit number and they have patience they can probably eventually unlock it, especially if you have a code such as 1234. I don't know if it goes into a full lock down mode or automatically wipes after 3 tries or something.

You know they can crack it? How so, as there have been no published records of anyone doing so, are there?

If it is a 4-digit code, they have 10,000 possible guesses to get it right. But, after 3 failed attempts, it will lock them out for a minute (or something). As they progrssively try it will lock them out for longer and longer after each failed attempt, and finally after ten failed tries, they are locked out for good - then the only way to get the device to respond to ANY input is to restore it. If one had a backup made prior to forgetting the passcode, they could restore from that backup, but otherwise, their only choice is to restore it as new, which in turn wipes out ALL your information (all content - renders the phone back to how it was new, out of the box).
