Tesltra said my iphone4 is unlocked but I still cant use it with an overseas sim

telstra said my iphone4 is unlocked yet it doesnt accept my new sim. I'm in Indonesia and apple support here is not as good as in Australia. I've done everything telstra (and others) told me to do, but it is still says "no service".

I have sync it, check for updates etc, but the message for network update never came up.

Pls note that "telkomsel" has swapped my sim card twice and the sim card works with my sister's iphone.

Can someone help me please? I tried contacting Apple, but unfortunately making international call is not an option at the moment as I cant make a call...

Thanks in advance

Hi thanks for the replies- yes- I have done the standard troubleshoot, reset etc. Telstra had allegedly unlocked my iPhone twice now, but both times I didn't get the "congrats the iPhone is unlocked etc etc" I have contacted Telstra again and that's when they said "speak to apple..". I didnt even get the "network upgrade is available for your iPhone" message..

Apple servers then release a version of iOS that is marked as unlocked the next time you restore.

Not quite, but close enough for government work... There is no special version of iOS that is marked as unlocked. What is required is that the phone be updated to unlock it. This is not part of iOS, but does require a firmware update.
