Q: Trying out mac os

I recently purchased an older mini mac. (2005) with os x 10.3.7. I will be purchasing a new computer soon, And wanted to try out a mac. What upgrade do i need to purchase to be able to actually update, my web browser? I can't seem to do much with this old of an OS. Just looking for tips I realize its dated but still wanted to get a feel for how this OS runs. And it was cheap. Any help is much appreciated. I just have never used a mac before I been on windows forever and wanted to check out mac before i purchase a new computer.

Well, I'm still using Tiger/10.4.11 for most things, byt Tiger can cost an arm & a leg.

Tiger Requirements...

To use Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, your Macintosh needs:

* A PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor

* Built-in FireWire

* At least 256 MB of RAM (I recommend 1GB minimum)

* DVD drive (DVD-ROM), Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) or SuperDrive (DVD-R) for installation

* At least 3 GB of free disk space; 4 GB if you install the XCode 2 Developer Tools (I recommend 20GB minimum)

If there's a physical Apple Store or third-party store which sells Macs nearby, go there and try out one of the display models. Since it's running Mac OS X 10.3.7, it's a PowerPC Mac; OS upgrades for it are hard to find and expensive.

Unfortunately there isn't . I live in a pretty rural area. That's why I picked this one up for $200 bucks to try it out. This is pretty much my options for trying it out without buying a more expensive model. Sorry I realize its outdated Just wanted to test run it a bit to get a feel for how the OS runs. First, you can update it to 10.3.9...

I think the most modern Browser for Panther/10.3.9 is Camino...

Updating the OS would cost more than a newer Mac with a greater OS methinks.

So I guess this was a bad purchase lol. Maybe I will sell my gaming rig and purchase a newer mac .

Thank you so much! Just purchased tiger Install dvd for 75usd! Should have just bought a newer mac mini haha. But mistakes are made when your dealing with something with little to no knowledge. I sure hope I like it Got my eyes set on a pretty Imac. Thanks everyone for the responses It truly helps.

Great news, thanks!

You can likely sell that Tiger Install disc for twice that, good score... hope it was the Black Retail version & not an IntelMac only Gray Disc.
